Two Performances:  2:00pm & 7:00pm at the William Glesby Centre

Please note the following classes are only performing in one of the performances:

All other classes are required to perform at both the 2:00pm & 7:00pm performances.

Hip Hop
Wednesdays, September to April

Instructor:  Bretton Selent of X-Company  
Hip Hop features fast-paced fluid dance moves designed to express the student's identity in the context of current music forms.  This class explores rhythm through movement.  Learn cool hip-hop dance moves, funky beat choreography and awesome dance steps.  Dance techniques include:  street (ie 'locking and popping'), isolations, urban funk, etc.  This is a very popular class!

Jazz
Saturdays, September to April
Instructor:  X-Company  
JAZZ is a dynamic, energetic, expressive style of dance that is most commonly seen in the movies and on TV today!  This class will include warm-up, technique, jazz vocabulary, as well as funky new dance combinations, set to upbeat current music.  This class will improve coordination, rhythm, flexibility, muscle control and overall fitness.  Be prepared to sweat and dance your heart out!
BOP N' TAP (ages 3-5)  
Mbrs: $240  Non-mbrs: $260 Time: Saturday, 10:30pm-11:15pm
Each student will be encouraged to freely explore music & movement with a balance of personal creativity and class structure. Introductory dance concepts will be taught, while placing the child's positive experience as the highest priority. A balance of creative movement and tap dance will be explored. Students will have the opportunity to decide which discipline to pursue.
HOP N' BOP (ages 3-5)  
Mbrs: $240  Non-mbrs: $260 Time: Saturday, 11:15pm-12:00pm
This funky, fun, energetic class is ideal for both boys and girls.  This class is designed to compliment the training of any athlete by teaching the kids a better sense of body awareness, coordination, memory, and rhythm, using a wide range of both popular and world music.
JAZZ (ages 12 and up)  
Mbrs: $260  Non-mbrs: $280 Time: Saturday, 2:00pm-3:00pm
Creative Movement, Intro to Dance, Intro to Dance-Moving Forward, Beginner Elementary Ballet, Ballet, Performance
Thursdays, October to April
Instructor: Savanna Rae Peers of X-Company  
CREATIVE MOVEMENT-A (age 3-5)  
Mbrs: $240  Non-mbrs: $260 Time: Thursday, 4:45pm-5:30pm  
Each student will be encouraged to freely explore music & movement with a balance of personal creativity and class structure.  Introductory dance concepts will be taught, while placing the child's positive experience as the highest priority.  Singing, rhythmic instruments, music, storytelling, free movement, dramatic dance, and some pre-ballet will be just some of the adventures in dance!

CREATIVE MOVEMENT-B (age 3-5)  
Mbrs: $240  Non-mbrs: $260 Time: Saturday, 12:00pm-12:45pm  
INTRO TO DANCE (ages 6-8)    
Mbrs: $250  Non-mbrs: $270 Time: Thursday, 5:30pm-6:30pm  
This class links creative movement with ballet, modern, and jazz techniques, while providing a safe environment for your child to explore freedom in movement.  We will start to introduce basic dance concepts and terminology from various styles.  This will provide students with an increased vocabulary while developing strength, grace, posture and flexibility.  This class promotes the enjoyment of dance and movement.

INTRO TO DANCE - MOVING FORWARD
(ages 8-10 or completion of two years Intro to Dance)  
Mbrs: $260  Non-mbrs: $280 Time: Thursday, 6:30pm-7:30 pm  
This class is the next step after Intro to Dance!  If you can't decide on just one technique of dance, why not learn them all!  This class will be a combination of the grace of Ballet, rhythm of Modern, funkiness of Jazz and imagination of Creative Movement.  Students will learn jumps, turns, kicks and steps from all of their favourite styles.  Moving Forward will promote coordination, the understanding of rhythm, flexibility, posture, and confidence!  
BEGINNER ELEMENTARY BALLET (ages 9-12)    
Mbrs: $260 Non-mbrs: $280 Time: Thursday, 7:30pm-8:30pm  
Having learned the basics in Intro to Dance this class provides the students with a more structured environment to further develop their technique and artistry.  Please see the Ballet course description for more details.

 

BALLET (ages 13 - adult)    
Mbrs: $280 Non-mbrs: $300 Time: Thursday, 8:30pm-9:30pm  
The technique of ballet is the foundation for all other forms of dance.  This class will focus on alignment and placement of the body, developing fast reflexes, graceful movements, increased flexibility, and heightened endurance while strengthening and toning the muscles.  This class will focus on developing the dancers sense of grace, posture, coordination and confidence.

Dance Recital:  April 17, 2010

 

Equipment Required:  Students will be required to purchase dance wear for classes, as well as rental/purchase of a costume.  A $30 fee will be added to the registration for the Recital costume. Hip Hop, Jazz and Ballet costumes range from $30-$50 (approximately) and any difference will be collected before Recital.

Refund Policy:  The following refund policy is in effect.
 - If the refund is requested before classes start, a full refund will be granted.
 - If the refund is requested after the first class, a refund will be granted, less a 10% administrative fee.
 - If the refund is requested after the second class, NO REFUND will be granted, except for medical reasons for which a doctor's certificate is required, or for someone moving out of town.  This refund will be granted less a 10% administrative fee.
 
Required Dress for Dance Classes (Jewellery should remain at home so it does not become lost):
JAZZ Girls Black body suit, cap sleeve style, black jazz shoes, black tights/jazz pants
  Boys & Adults T-shirt, comfortable but not loose, black jazz shoes, black jazz pants
TAP Girls Black body suit, cap sleeve style, tap shoes, black tights/jazz pants
  Boys & Adults T-shirt, comfortable but not loose, tap shoes, slim pants
CREATIVE DANCE   Bodysuit, skirt optional, hair back off face
INTRO TO DANCE   Bodysuit, ballet tights, ballet shoes, hair back off face
BALLET   Bodysuit, ballet tights, ballet shoes, hair in a classical bun or off the face
HIP HOP   Loose, comfortable clothing, non-marking, comfortable shoes
 
*If buying a new bodysuit, buy black, otherwise, any colour if you already have one.  If a student does not come to class in the proper attire, they may be asked to leave class until the attire is corrected. 
*Parents are welcome to observe the first 15 minutes of the first class. In subsequent classes, please enjoy watching your children in the waiting room through the one-way windows.
*Messages for the instructor can be left with Portage & District Arts Centre staff at 239-6029; instructors will check messages when they arrive each week. 

Students should arrive 10 minutes early and be ready for class.
